Sports complex to undergo RM1 mln upgrade

PAKAN: The Pakan Sports Complex will receive an allocation of RM1 million under Phase 1 to improve and upgrade its drainage system.

The upgrading works, set to begin in April is expected to be completed by September.

Focus will be on constructing and upgrading the drainage system to address water logging issues that have damaged the football field and running track.

Advisor in the Premier’s Office (Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development) Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, who is also the Pakan assemblyman, was present to witness the site handover ceremony between the Meradong Julau District Council (MDMJ) and the appointed contractor.

Later, speaking to reporters, Mawan expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) and MDMJ for their commitment to upgrade the sports complex.

He emphasised its significance as a key venue for major events planned in mid-2025.

Mawan also highlighted that schools across the Pakan district frequently use the complex for various sports activities, thus requiring the need for these improvements.

Meanwhile, once Phase 1 is completed, Phase 2 will follow, involving the replacement of the running track, installation of covered seating, and fencing around the complex.

The funding for this phase will be determined at a later stage.
