Man fined RM3,000 for damaging neighbour’s fence after noise complaint

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a man RM3,000 for damaging his neighbour’s fence after being reprimanded for revving his motorcycle exhaust too loudly.

Chai Wee Tong, 21, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to a charge framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code. Failure to pay the fine will result in 12 months’ imprisonment.

The incident occurred around 2.30pm on Jan 28 at Taman Genesis, Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa, where Chai deliberately damaged the fence of his 43-year-old neighbour’s house, causing RM1,000 in losses.

According to the case facts, the woman’s son (complainant) noticed the damage around 3pm and informed his mother. A police report was lodged for further action, leading to Chai’s arrest on Feb 2.

Investigations revealed that Chai damaged the fence as he was dissatisfied after being reprimanded over the loud noise from his motorcycle exhaust.

Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Chai was unrepresented by counsel.
