KUCHING: A sum of RM100,000 has been allocated for the upgrading of the San Sam Kuet Bong Temple at Mile 7 here.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap who visited the temple on Monday (March 3) provided the funding following a discussion with the management of the temple and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) officers.

The allocation is another contribution from Yap’s Rural Transformation Project funds.

During the visit, Yap reminded the management committee and devotees present to remain united as Sarawakians in rejecting the racial and religious rhetoric of Malaya-based political parties which are in direct conflict with the inclusive and multicultural values of the GPS government.

“Such rhetoric not only alienates us but also threatens the unity and diversity that Sarawakians have enjoyed for so long.

“Through the unity of all Sarawakians regardless of race or religion, our GPS government can focus on further improving temples and churches and also the living standards of all anak Sarawak.

“As Sarawakians, we must lead the way and build a Sarawak based on rule of law, justice, social inclusivity and mutual respect – values that are increasingly eroding in Malaya,” he said.

He said the people must continue to build on Sarawak’s diversity to forge a brighter future under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
