KUCHING: Mirian Mirabel Ting has once again solidified Malaysia’s eminence in the golfing arena after reaching a career-best third rank in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) recently.

Ting’s rise in ranks came after her victory at the Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara Country Club, Mexico on Feb 2 — overtaking former top three ranker Rianne Mikhaela Malixi of the Philippines.

Trailblazing as the first amateur Malaysian golfer to attain such rank, the 19-year-old shared her excitement on her championship win in a heartfelt Instagram post, saying, “Make that 3 in a row — kicked off the spring season with a team win and 5th collegiate win.

“Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement.”

Previously she ranked fourth overall in the women’s amateur standings in December last year.

Currently representing Florida State University, the Sarawakian athlete has now secured three consecutive collegiate tournament wins.

These include the Folds of Honour Collegiate in Michigan and the Schooner Fall Classic in Oklahoma last September, bringing her total collegiate victories to five.

With just 18 months remaining until her graduation, the Mirian is in a strong position to attain the world No. 1 ranking.

While her teammate and current world no. 1, Lottie Woad, holds a commanding lead (at 1456 points), Ting’s continued upward momentum could see her challenge the world no. 2 spot, currently held by Jasmine Koo of the University of Southern California who holds a commendable 1345 points as to date.

As she prepares for the spring season, the future looks incredibly bright for this talented golfer – one step closer to attain greater heights.
