KUCHING: An early morning car crash along Jalan Padungan today (Jan 26) has claimed the life of a woman and left three others injured.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 3.23 am and deployed firefighters from Padungan station to the scene.
Upon arrival, they confirmed that a Perodua Ativa had crashed into a tree in front of a hotel, and four women were in the vehicle during the accident.
Two victims had already been rescued by the police and were handed over to paramedics for transport to the hospital. Meanwhile, the remaining two victims were trapped in their seats and required extrication by firefighters.
The front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was later transported to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The second trapped victim was also extricated and sent to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities have confirmed that of the injured victims, two sustained severe injuries while the third sustained leg injuries.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 4.36 am.
