KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) recently received a courtesy visit from the Faculty of Environmental Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), to discuss potential collaboration on drafting and implementing the Sarawak Permanent Forest Reserve Master Plan Project (Projek Pelan Induk Hutan Simpan Kekal Sarawak).
This initiative aims to support forest resource conservation efforts, ensure sustainable forest management, and strengthen the protection of Sarawak’s biodiversity.
According to STIDC general manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah, this collaboration marks a significant step toward achieving sustainable forest management while benefiting the local community.
Meanwhile, Dr Shazali Johari, head of the Sarawak Permanent Forest Reserve Master Plan Project (Projek Pelan Induk Hutan Simpan Kekal Sarawak), emphasised the critical role of research and innovation in forest management.
He highlighted that such efforts would contribute to developing more effective strategies for forest conservation in Sarawak.
“This visit is expected to pave the way for projects that will not only enhance the ecosystem but also create job opportunities and improve the standard of living for the local community,” he said.
With this partnership between STIDC and UPM, both parties are committed to ensuring that Sarawak’s forest resources are sustainably managed for the wellbeing of future generations.
