KUCHING: The Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025 is set to welcome over 200 bowlers, with teams from Sabah, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kedah, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia competing at Megalanes, Batu Kawa, from Feb 11 to 16.
Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced that the ten-pin sport championship had also become a household name in the region.
“Building on the success of previous editions, the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup has become one of the most prestigious bowling events in the region.
“It continues to attract top-level competition and fosters greater engagement with both international and domestic bowling communities,” he said at a press conference today (Jan 24) at the Baitulmakmur Building II.
Abdul Karim added that the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025 is eagerly anticipated by bowling enthusiasts, not only in Malaysia but throughout the region.
“The prestigious event is sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) and the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC).
“The official sanctioning from both the ABF and MTBC reinforces the tournament’s credibility and ensures adherence to international competition standards,” he said.
Additionally, Abdul Karim highlighted that recognition from these governing bodies has positioned Sarawak as a leader in organising professional bowling tournaments.
“Our Sarawak Government, through the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), fully supports ABAS’s commitment to host both international and domestic tournaments to provide competitive opportunities for bowlers of all levels,” he added.
Abdul Karim also praised Amateur Bowling Tenpin Association of Sarawak (ABAS) for organising the international event, emphasising its importance for Sarawak’s sports sector and the local bowling community.
Also present at the press conference were ABAS president Sunny Si Poh Heng and ABAS vice president Robert Lu Nam Min.
For the record, the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025 will reward a total cash prize of RM60,000, and the tournament will include various competing categories such as Baker, Trios Long Squad, Short Squad, and Youth Overall Champion Under 21.
