KUCHING: Medan Niaga Satok was abuzz with activity as the special sales programme for Chinese New Year officially kicked off, offering festive deals and promotions to an enthusiastic crowd.
The launch on Friday (Jan 24) was officiated by the chief political secretary to the Sarawak Premier and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman with a symbolic Yee Sang tossing ceremony.
“This programme not only provides the community with the opportunity to enjoy various local products at affordable prices but also gives entrepreneurs the space to market their products to a wider audience.
“Meanwhile, all the entrepreneurs at FAMA marketing outlets must comply with the 2025 Chinese New Year Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) set by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN),” he said.
Fazzrudin also launched the “Happy Hour Kombo Agro Madani” sale, offering a special price of RM10 per combo for 1,000 units, compared to the original price of RM15, providing consumers with a 30 per cent savings.
In addition to physical sales, promotions on the Agrobazaar online portal also attracted visitors’ attention. The portal offers a RM10 voucher for every purchase of RM30 and above, allowing consumers to enjoy discounts and shop for agricultural products online conveniently and quickly.
The special sales programme is also being held at all 72 Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) marketing outlets throughout Sarawak, starting from Jan 24 to 28, with a total sales target of RM500,000.
The participating outlets include Medan Niaga Satok, Permanent Farmers’ Market, Farmers’ Market, Agrobazaar Kedai Rakyat (AKR), and Agrobazaar Rakyat (ABR). The programme aims to provide opportunities for entrepreneurs to conduct sales during the festive season and for consumers to purchase their Chinese New Year necessities face-to-face.
Also present at the event were deputy director-general (food security & operations) of FAMA, Shahrizan Sudiman; and director of FAMA Sarawak, Norsalawaty Abdul Kadir.
