TRISO: The Sarawak government’s effort to improve the road from Kampung Triso to Maludam aims to meet the anticipated increase in traffic volume once the major bridges in the area are completed.

Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has allocated more than RM37 million to upgrade the 11.82km road.

“This project is crucial because upgrading the road to the Public Works Department (JKR) R3 standard will improve the quality and safety of the infrastructure used by the people.

“It will also meet the expected traffic needs once the Batang Lupar Bridge One and two bridges at Batang Saribas are completed.

“I am confident this area will become busier. Therefore, when the bridges are ready, the roads must also be in good condition to allow the people to enjoy comfortable drives, just like on the Pan Borneo Highway.”

Dayang Noorazah said this when officiating the earth-breaking ceremony for Package Three: Road Upgrading and Surface Rehabilitation Project along the coastal road from Kampung Triso to Maludam here today.

She explained that this road, which forms part of the Second Trunk Road, will connect coastal areas with Sarawak’s main road network.

“This initiative aligns with the Sarawak government’s vision to ensure inclusive and sustainable infrastructure development that directly benefits the people.

“The mobility of residents in areas such as Sebuyau, Triso, Maludam, Pusa, and the surrounding areas will improve, and travel time will be shortened.”

Dayang Noorazah expressed confidence in the main contractor, Earthmovers (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, under the close supervision of JKR, hoping the project will be implemented on schedule and meet the required quality standards.

The project, which began on Dec 2, 2024, is expected to be completed within 24 months, by Dec 1, 2026.

Also present were Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor, and Betong Division JKR engineer Jason Ng Boon Tuan.
