KUCHING: Cahya Mata Cement Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad, is set to revolutionise the cement production industry in Sarawak with the development of its new clinker line in Mambong, here. This marks a significant milestone in supporting the state’s infrastructure and economic growth.
Since its inception in 1974, Cahya Mata Cement has been a cornerstone of Sarawak’s development, providing high-quality cement for various construction needs. As the sole cement producer in the state, the company has consistently ensured an uninterrupted supply, meeting the demands of both ready-mix and precast concrete products for major infrastructure projects.
“Cahya Mata Cement recognises its responsibility to ensure an uninterrupted supply of cement,” it said in a press release yesterday (Jan 23).
“To fulfil this obligation, the company has strengthened its supply chain by operating multiple plants and terminals across the state, ensuring that construction projects continue seamlessly.
“The company’s latest venture, Clinker Line 2, is set to raise production capabilities to new heights. Slated for completion in 2027, this new clinker production line will enhance both environmental performance and energy efficiency.
Incorporating advanced systems, such as a waste heat recovery system capable of generating 6MW of power and a state-of-the-art dust filtration system, Clinker Line 2 will not only reduce energy consumption but also significantly lower CO2 emissions.
Additionally, the construction phase of the project, expected to last 24 months, will create up to 500 jobs, benefiting the local economy, particularly in the Padawan area.
“With increased production capacity, the plant will become self-sufficient in clinker supply, eliminating the need for imports and improving economies of scale.
“By the time Clinker Line 2 is operational, Cahya Mata Cement will be able to produce 1.92 million metric tonnes of clinker annually, supporting a projected cement output of 2.4 million metric tonnes per year,” it said.
Cahya Mata Cement remains committed to its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, aiming for a cleaner, more energy-efficient plant while continuing to meet Sarawak’s growing demand for quality cement.
“As Sarawak continues to invest in infrastructure to build a brighter future, the need for a sustainable and reliable supply of quality cement remains critical to unlocking the state’s growth potential,” said Choong Ju Tang, Acting Head of the Cahya Mata Cement Division.
“The Clinker Line 2 project positions Cahya Mata Cement to not only meet but exceed the construction industry’s demands in Sarawak for years to come,” he added.
