Overwhelming response to 11th Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA)

KUCHING: A total of 212 participants competed in the 11th Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA) 2023/2024, marking a 32 per cent increase from the 144 participants in the 10th PSEA 2021/2022.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the remarkable growth reflects the collective efforts and strong support from industries and agencies.

“I sincerely thank all those involved for their dedication and contributions,” he said.

Abang Johari also congratulate to all participants for being leaders in integrating sustainable practices into your operations and workplaces.

“Your achievements not only demonstrate excellence but also inspire other businesses and communities to elevate their environmental stewardship.

“Together, let us continue to drive meaningful change and create a greener, more sustainable future for Sarawak,” he said in his speech during the 11th PSEA awards ceremony at Imperial Hotel here, on Wednesday (Jan 23).

Abang Johari said PSEA stands as a distinguished recognition for Sarawakians dedicated to green practices and sustainability.

“It celebrates individuals, organisations, and industries that champion environmental stewardship, drive the green economy, and contribute to sustainable development.

“This award reflects our state’s unwavering commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future,” he said.

Eight participants emerged the champion for the 11th PSEA 2023/2024.

Spice Garden Sdn Bhd emerged as champion in the Eateries and Food Outlet category, while Mark Liao Jun won the Open category, and Daro and Matu District Council won the Local Authority (District) category. All three winners respectively brought home RM8,000.

Sibu Municipal Council won the Local Authority (City, Municipal and BDA) category while Miri Port Authority won thr Government Sector category, and Thian Shen Automobile and Services Sdn Bhd won the Small Enterprise category. The three winners brought home RM10,000 each.

Shin Yang Sdn Bhd (Linau Forest Management Unit:m T/3228)  which won the Medium Enterprise category, took home RM15,000 while Samsung E&A (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd won the Large Enterprise/GLC category, taking home RM20,000.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, and Deputy Minister of Energy and Environment Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abg Hipni.
