KUCHING: The public has been encouraged to deepen their knowledge of using Automated External Defibrillators (AED).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said this knowledge is essential to prepare for unexpected accidents, particularly those related to heart health.

“Congratulations to the Stampin Branch of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) for organising an AED usage simulation with drone assistance,” he said.

He said this during the Inaugural Community Preparedness Training at Ang Cheng Ho Sports and Community Hall here on Tuesday (Jan 21).

Dr Sim added that AEDs should be made available at all public facilities to facilitate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for individuals who suffer sudden cardiac arrest.

He also highlighted that the technology has been improved with the use of drones equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), enabling AEDs to be delivered anywhere, including remote areas.

He urged corporate and private companies across the state to adopt this initiative rather than rely solely on government provisions.

“AEDs are now affordable medical devices, and significant improvements have been made, particularly in size and battery life,” he explained.

Also present during the ceremony was Padawan Municipal Council chairman, Tan Kai.
