KUCHING: Chief political secretary to the Sarawak Premier and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman inspired students at a UiTM programme on Tuesday (Jan 21) with a call to prioritise education, embrace leadership and fulfil their responsibilities in shaping Sarawak’s future.

The programme served as a testament to the Sarawak government’s commitment to empowering the younger generation, ensuring they are equipped to contribute to the state’s development and achieve their fullest potential.

“Today, we are meeting future leaders who will one day drive the economic, political and social development of Sarawak. The time we spend in programmes like this must be meaningful, and we must ensure that every moment spent brings valuable outcomes.”

Fazzrudin said this during his opening speech for the briefing on Sarawak government education initiatives organised by the Sarawak Premier’s Department at Dewan Jubli, UiTM Samarahan 1 Campus, Kota Samarahan.

He noted the value of education as the foundation for personal and professional success.

He urged students to stay committed to their studies, reminding them of the sacrifices made by their families and the opportunities made available by the state government.

“Our vision for Sarawak is to ensure the state moves forward by 2030. To achieve this, we need skilled human resources who can contribute to new industries like renewable energy and the new economy.”

He outlined the Sarawak government’s commitment to supporting students through various initiatives.

He highlighted financial assistance such as the RM1,200 monthly aid for students announced by the Sarawak Premier, as well as scholarships provided by Yayasan Sarawak.

“These initiatives ensure that students have the resources they need to focus on their studies. For instance, Yayasan Sarawak offers scholarships, and the SCOPE programme provides on-the-job training with government agencies, equipping students with the skills to succeed in their future careers.”

He also mentioned other initiatives, including a RM200 monthly rent subsidy for eligible students and financial aid programmes designed to reduce the financial burden on families.
