PADAWAN: The Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) here will be getting help from Pemadam Sarawak chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He pledged to support Puspen in addressing its immediate needs and improving its facilities.
Abdul Karim, who is Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister, stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment for the centre’s residents, especially with the month of Ramadan approaching.
“It will involve activities such as nightly tarawih prayers. It is better to ensure these needs are met, I will arrange for this personally.
“As part of Pemadam Sarawak, we have specific allocations, and we will do what we can to ease the burden here,” he said during his working visit and briefing session on Puspen’s operations here Monday.
Abdul Karim added that improving various amenities at the centre, including cooling systems, recreational facilities, and a multipurpose hall, is necessary.
As such, he assured that moveable recreational equipment would be provided promptly, while more permanent structures, such as sports courts, would require careful planning and consideration.
“If I can assist through my ministry, I will look into it from that perspective. Since I oversee the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, we can channel resources here,” he said.
To ensure the effectiveness of these efforts, he noted the need for detailed data from the personnel managing the centre to facilitate his review.
Abdul Karim, who is also Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, said it is important to identify immediate requirements to uplift the spirits of the residents.
“This is about addressing the immediate needs that can bring joy and comfort to the residents,” he added.
