IPSWICH (United Kingdom): Pep Guardiola hailed Manchester City’s return to form after a resounding 6-0 victory over struggling Ipswich, with Phil Foden playing a starring role.
Foden scored twice, while Mateo Kovacic added a brilliant goal as City raced to a 3-0 lead by halftime. The second half saw Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland, and James McAtee all get on the scoresheet to secure City’s biggest league win of the season.
Guardiola expressed his delight at the performance, reflecting on the team’s recovery from a poor start to the season. “We are back in many things that have defined this team over the last decade,” he said.
The win was important not only for confidence but also for City’s bid to secure a Champions League spot, as Guardiola noted the challenge ahead in the Premier League.
Despite trailing leaders Liverpool by 12 points, Guardiola remains focused on restoring the team’s pride, highlighting the importance of the players recognizing their identity. “The most important thing is that the players recognize what we are,” he said.
Haaland, who signed a new long-term contract earlier in the week, scored once, continuing his exceptional form. However, Kyle Walker was again absent from the squad amid transfer rumors linking him to AC Milan. – AFP
