MIRI: A former Pemanca, Mohamed Abang Othman, 79, has been appointed as the Temenggong Melayu of Miri Division for a four-year term beginning Jan 1 this year.
Mohamed, who previously served as Pemanca Melayu of Miri Division, received his letter of appointment from Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin during a ceremony at the Miri Resident’s Office on Monday (Jan 20).
In addition to this, Chai Kuen Ming has been appointed as the Penghulu for Bakam, Liao, Riam, and Lambir areas for the same period.
Chai, who formerly held the position of Kapitan, assumed his new role on Jan 1 this year.
For the Miri Division Ketua Kaum positions in the Senadin area, three new leaders were appointed for the term running from Jan 1 this year to Dec 31, 2026. They are:
Sharfezza Sulaiman, Ketua Kaum (KK)for Kampung Batu 1, Jalan Kuala Baram, Miri; Majanah Mohamed Yusope, for Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, Miri; Tang Tung Ming, Kapitan for Sungai Adong, Padang Kerbau, and Pujut areas, Miri.
Additionally, 13 other community leaders in the Senadin area received certificates of service extensions.
They are: KK Usman Suleiman @ Othman Suleiman; KK Yusree Zainuzzaman ; KK Raamah Hamdan ; KK Yakup Sebli ;KK Nila Simat ;KK Joha’anie Wahap; Kapitan Chong Khee Fah ; Kapitan Lai Tze Voon ; Kapitan Chong Ah Muk ;Tuai Rumah Muring Lambor ; Pemanca Isut Karin ;Penghulu Randi Elon ; and Penghulu Ngadan Melintang.
A letter of appreciation was also presented to Wilson Atong Limping, the outgoing Temenggong Iban, in recognition of his service.
The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, and Telang Usan assemblyman, Datuk Dennis Ngau.
