KUCHING: The Malaysian Ex-Police Association (PBPM) is currently in discussion with the Sarawak government on financial aid and honorary awards for nearly 2,000 former police and military personnel who served in the state.

PBPM president Datuk Mokhtar Omar expressed optimism that eligible recipients will receive the one-off financial assistance soon.

“God willing, those who are eligible will receive the assistance, possibly before Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said.

He told the media this after a courtesy visit to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri today.

During the visit, PBPM also discussed issues related to the welfare and rights of former PDRM personnel and explored strategic collaborations to benefit all stakeholders.

“We have highlighted the situation of nearly 10,000 members of the Malaysian Ex-Police Association in Sarawak, including those from the Emergency era, many of whom still require welfare assistance as they lack proper housing and deserve recognition,” Mokhtar added.

He urged former policemen who are not yet members of PBPM to expedite their membership applications to ensure they can access the benefits and assistance provided by the association.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi expressed hope that the discussions would positively impact PBPM’s efforts to enhance the welfare of its members.

He also extended his appreciation to PBPM for its dedication to supporting former police officers who have significantly contributed to the nation’s security and development.
