KUCHING: The Bible Society of Malaysia marked its 40th anniversary with a historic launch of three Bible editions at the Sanctuary, Trinity Methodist Church here Sunday.

The three editions were ‘Alkitab Kudus Malaysia’, a formal Bahasa Malaysia translation; ‘Alkitab Berita Baik Edisi Studi’, an enriched study Bible; and the experimental Iban Bible, which represent years of dedicated effort to make scripture accessible to diverse Malaysian communities.

In his address, Bishop Danald Jute spoke about how language connects them to their faith.

“The beautiful thing with Bible translations is that it reminds us God understands all our languages,” he said.

Jute underscored the call to linguistic inclusivity, reinforcing the right of Malaysians to use their native languages when worshipping.

“The language of Malaysia is our language, my language.

“I have the right to use that language, and no one has the right to tell me otherwise.

“Through Bible translations, we strengthen our faith and answer God’s call to grow together as His people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Datuk Ng Moon Hing, former bishop of the Diocese of West Malaysia, said translating the Bible comes with difficulties and sacrifice.

“To translate the Bible requires massive effort and resources.

“Imagine two translators working for seven years on a single project, not to mention the costs of typesetting, printing, and distribution.

“Yet, it is all worth it because the Bible contains God’s truth, light, and life,” Ng said.

He urged believers to seize the opportunity to engage with scripture.
