Flood submerges longhouse, over 130 evacuated to PPS

SARATOK: A temporary relief centre (PPS) has been opened at Dewan Rumah Dayak here to house more than 130 flood evacuees from Rumah Tembawai Kapok, Awit, today (Jan 19).

According to the Civil Defence Force (APM), the relief centre was officially opened at 3.30 pm.

However, the exact number of longhouse residents affected by the flood has not yet been revealed, as the evacuation process is ongoing.

A team from APM Saratok, together with firefighters, was dispatched to the 21-door longhouse after receiving an emergency call at 1.45 pm.

Upon arrival, they found the longhouse submerged in approximately 1.24 metres of water, with water levels rising due to continuous rain throughout the day.

It was understood that the flood also rendered most of the roads leading to the longhouse impassable by vehicles.

At the time of writing, there have been no new updates from authorities on the flood situation at Rumah Tembawai Kapok, Awit.
