KUCHING: South Africa’s Under-19 Women’s team triumphed by 22 runs against New Zealand in an exciting encounter at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, held at the Borneo Cricket Ground on Saturday (Jan 18).

Spectators filled the stands, with New Zealand fans vocally supporting their side, while the South African crowd were equally passionate in backing their team.

New Zealand entered the match with a dynamic line-up, boasting all-round talents like Emma Mary Amanda McLeod and Kate Philippa Irwin.

On the opposite side, South Africa showcased a balanced squad, including Kayla Reyneke and Monalisa Legodi alongside Jemma Botha who was player of the match, proving a vital asset to the team.

The match showcased a level of skills, with South Africa edging ahead and eventually sealing a 22-run victory, much to the delight of their supporters.

Earlier that day, the match between Samoa and Nigeria was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to weather conditions, leaving the crowd waiting eagerly for the next action-packed encounter.

This clash between South Africa and New Zealand was yet another reminder of the quality and excitement the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup continues to deliver.

Tomorrow (Jan 20), New Zealand is expected to play against Nigeria at around 10.30am at Borneo Cricket Ground. While later in the afternoon, South Africa will play Samoa at 2.30pm at the same venue.
