Seven evacuated, road damaged due to floodwaters

KUCHING: A family of seven had to evacuate to safety after their house in Kampung Sinar Budi, Jalan Desa Wira, was inundated by floodwaters today (Jan 19).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Batu Lintang station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.20 am.

Upon arrival, they found that water levels in the area are knee-deep and continue to rise due to incessant rain.

The family, including a person with disabilities, was relocated to a futsal court in the village since the temporary relief centre (PPS) has yet to be opened.

At the time of writing, authorities have yet to provide an update on the situation in Kampung Sinar Budi.

Meanwhile, in Lundu, the road heading into Kampung Pasir Hulu Lundu was badly damaged following a flash flood.

Firefighters from Lundu station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.40 am.

Upon arrival, they confirmed that the road was cut off due to flash floods and still passable by vehicles. As at 12.30 pm, floodwaters have receded at the scene and vehicles are able to pass through the damaged road.
