OPENED on January 5, this Muslim-owned eatery brings a riverside garden atmosphere, offering a serene escape with lush greenery and the peaceful ambiance of Sungai Maong. Roofed for comfort, it provides a relaxing backdrop for a delicious meal.

Operate daily from 5.30pm to 11pm (except Mondays), the eatery offers an affordable dining experience with prices set at RM33 for adults and RM20 for kids (ages 5-12).

Conveniently located in Taman Stapok, Jalan Sungai Maong Baru, this halal steamboat and barbecue restaurant stands out as the only one of its kind in a predominantly Chinese-populated area.

“Previously known for non-halal offerings, the restaurant is now fully halal under new ownership and is working towards halal certification.

“This transformation provides Muslim customers in the area with a trusted and welcoming dining option,” said Faridah Hasbi, one of the restaurant’s partners.

As for the menu, Windy Harbour Seafood/Dapur Nelayan offers a delightful mix of marinated and fresh options.

Feast on an array of fresh seafood such as prawns, mussels, and more, along with tender cuts of lamb, beef, and chicken. If you’re in the mood for something fun and light, the frozen selections like fish balls, nuggets, and others are ready for the grill or steamboat pot.

Complement your meal with a colourful selection of fresh vegetables, eggs, or indulge in their ready-cooked dishes, including fried rice, fried noodles, chicken curry, fried chicken, and more.

“These cooked dishes are topped up three times daily, ensuring every guest has access to freshly prepared food throughout the evening,” said Faridah.

Adding to its appeal, this eatery is conveniently connected to its main restaurant located just across the way.

It starts the day as early as 6am with breakfast and transitions into a “nasi campur” spread during the noon hours. For those craving its menu offerings, orders can be placed from 1pm to 9pm.

Craving something different? You can order dishes from the main restaurant and enjoy them at the steamboat area. This seamless integration lets you mix and match for the ultimate dining experience.

Here’s another exciting perk: you can bring your own raw meat or seafood and have it cooked to your preferences by the skilled chefs. Whether it’s a special marinade or a custom cooking style, the team is eager to make your meal truly yours.

In addition, this eatery also boasts a spacious parking area, making it a hassle-free destination for families and large groups.

Its strategic location also caters to diners from nearby areas like Matang, Batu Kawa, Green Road, and Sungai Maong, ensuring easy access for a wide range of customers. Whether you’re coming for a family dinner or hosting a celebration, accessibility and convenience are part of the experience.

“A surau is available on-site for Muslim customers who wish to perform their prayers.

“The air-conditioned main restaurant, as well as the open-air steamboat area, can be booked for special events like parties and anniversaries, offering a personalised dining experience for any celebration,” Faridah added.

Elaborating, she said that as they embark on their first venture into the barbecue and steamboat business, she and her team are fully committed to continuous learning and improvement.

They openly welcome feedback, comments, and suggestions from customers to refine their services and ensure the best dining experience possible. This dedication to growth makes every diner a valued contributor to their journey, fostering a sense of community and shared success.

“Like any new business, we have faced several challenges, particularly in hiring committed local workers and building awareness about the restaurant’s transformation.

“While Indonesian workers have shown resilience and dedication, we are focused on prioritising local talent to support the economy and retain funds within the state.

“Additionally, we are leveraging social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok to inform the Muslim community about our shift to a fully halal dining experience and to rebuild trust after the restaurant’s non-halal history. These efforts are ongoing, but we are determined to succeed,” she explained.
