KUCHING: The Federation of Chinese Associations, Kuching, Samarahan, Serian Division and local media have been given a pat on the back for contributing to Sarawak’s efforts to become a strong, united and progressive state by 2030.
The acknowledgement comes from Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian who firstly highlighted the importance of the Chinese federation as a pillar of Sarawak’s nation-building efforts.
“The federation has been vital in shaping Sarawak’s past and will play an even greater role in the coming years as we strive to mature as a state,” he said at the federation’s Media Appreciation programme on Saturday (Jan 18).
Also, acknowledging the rise of social media and artificial intelligence, Dr Sim underscored the transformative role of the media.
He urged journalists to safeguard Sarawak’s interests and remain vigilant against misinformation.
“In this age, bad news spreads faster, and AI-generated content can distort the truth. It is the media’s responsibility to ensure Sarawak’s story is told honestly and accurately.
“By working together, maintaining unity, and defending Sarawak’s identity, we can overcome any challenges thrown our way,” he said.
He encouraged collaboration between the federation, the media, and the Sarawakian community to achieve the shared vision of progress by 2030.
