SIBU: A total of 350 needy senior citizens received ang pows and mini hampers from STM Lottery Sdn. Bhd (Sports Toto) today (Jan 18) in conjunction with upcoming celebration of the Chinese New Year 2025.
Sibu Member of Parliament, Oscar Ling Chai Yew was invited as the guest of honour to hand out the contribution to the beneficiaries at the premises of Sibu Foochow Association on Jalan Salim here.
Also present were STM Lottery Sales & Operations senior manager, Michael Chee; Sports Toto Headquarters auditor, Lim Wan Lin and Sports Toto Area sales executive Sibu District, Hayden Pau.
According to a statement from STM Lottery, in celebration of the upcoming Year of the Snake the company has officially kicked off its 38th Sports Toto Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at providing support to over 19,000 underprivileged senior citizens across Malaysia.
The six-day campaign, which began on Jan 16, is being held across 50 cities and towns, targeting elderly individuals aged 60 and above who are in need of assistance.
Sibu is one of the 50 locations selected for the donation campaign.
Since its initiation in 1988, the charitable campaign by STM Lottery has contributed over RM26.95 million, benefitting more than 474,550 needy old folk in need across the country.
The campaign is aligned with STM Lottery’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental, Social, and Governance values through its Helping Hands programme reflecting the wisdom and resilience symbolised by the Year of the Snake.
“Beyond festive donations, the programme also lends support to national sports development and various social sustainability projects, including sports sponsorships, food bank initiatives, and environmental conservation campaigns,” the statement added.
