MIRI: Four-star Meritz Hotel is boasting a fresh new look after a comprehensive 30-month renovation.

The transformation, during which the hotel remained operational, encompasses all aspects of the hotel, including the lobby, all guest floors, banquet spaces, the grand ballroom, and all 290 rooms and suites.

The upgrades included a state-of-the-art air conditioning system for rooms and public areas, an advanced sound system for function spaces, and the installation of a cutting-edge LED screen in the pillar-less ballroom.

The ballroom, now the largest in Miri, can accommodate up to 3,000 guests in a theatre-style setting or 145 tables for a dinner banquet.

“It feels like a grand reopening,” said John Teo, the hotel’s geberal manager.

The Ballroom, now the largest in Miri, can accommodate up to 3,000 guests in a theatre-style setting or 145 tables for a Chinese dinner banquet.

“The entire property has been overhauled with a focus on guest comfort and sustainability, ensuring that our services remain top-notch for years to come.”

Situated adjacent to Miri’s largest shopping destination, Bintang Megamall, Meritz Hotel offers a prime location for both leisure and business travellers.

Looking ahead, Teo said, Meritz Hotel aims to capitalise on Miri’s growing infrastructure and economic prospects.

The hotel plans to host an array of functions, events, and conventions in its newly revamped facilities.

Upcoming developments in Miri, including the expansion of the Kuala Baram Deep Sea Port, the extension of Miri International Airport, and the new Miri Bus Terminal, promise to enhance connectivity and attract visitors from across the region.

These projects, alongside initiatives such as the widening of the Sungai Tujoh lanes to ease Miri-Brunei traffic and the Kenyalang Smart City project near Curtin University, are set to position Miri as a burgeoning hub for business and tourism in Sarawak.
