KUCHING: Nine-year-old Dion Das Louis, fondly known as the ‘Little Bornean Birdie,’ has secured double victories at the Dance World Cup Malaysia Qualifier.
Dion captivated the judges with his performances, clinching the Mini Solo National and Folklore categories.
Dion was also awarded the prestigious Best Solo Mini Award, securing him a spot to represent Malaysia at the Dance World Cup Finals in Burgos, Spain, this July.
Dion’s winning performances were inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Sarawak.
Drawing from the traditional Dayak Iban dance, ‘ngajat’, he masterfully incorporated symbolic elements such as the ‘ruai’ (great argus pheasant) and ‘kenyalang’ (hornbill).
This is not the first time Dion has brought glory to the nation.
Last year, he made waves at the 27th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in the United States, bagging two gold medals in the Junior Division for the ‘Ethnic Dance’ and ‘Photo Shoot Model’ categories.
