MUKAH: Who would have thought an 11-year-old child could read 512 books in a year?

Crowned as the top reader during the excellence appreciation ceremony at SK Kampung Tellian, Nur Hayfa Ellysha Nafri never imagined she had achieved such a remarkable feat.

“I really love reading books; it’s been my hobby since I was little.

“Alhamdulillah, I am thrilled to receive this award and hope to increase the number of books I read in the future,” she said yesterday.

Fondly known as Hayfa, she shared that she borrows around 12 books weekly from the Mukah Public Library.

According to her, she typically finishes two to three books a day, depending on their thickness.

“If the book is thin, it doesn’t take much time, but sometimes it takes one to two hours if it’s thick.

“However, I make an effort to read daily, completing two to three books daily.”

Hayfa prefers reading in the morning, as she finds it the most suitable time, though she sometimes reads after school and after finishing her homework.

She also revealed that her favourite book is Empat Srikandi Cilik (The Four Little Heroines) and expressed her dream of having a home library someday.

Earlier, SK Kampung Tellian recorded 233 students collectively reading 9,905 books.

Meanwhile, Year Six excellent student award recipient, Earlvinna Edwyn Eduine, expressed joy over her achievement.

She attributed her success to consistent efforts, particularly in time management.

“Time management is crucial for any student. We focus on studying during study time, and during playtime, we play wholeheartedly.

“Additionally, revisiting chapters after lessons is essential to help retain what we’ve learned in class.

“If there’s no time after class, revision can be done before the next session,” she explained.

Earlvinna hopes to continue excelling as she progresses to Form 1 in the upcoming school year.
