MIRI: The Northern Zone Delegates Meeting of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) is set to take place today (18 Jan) at the Pullman Miri Hotel.

The meeting, to be officiated by PBB president and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, will bring together 1,600 delegates representing 18 PBB branches from the Northern Zone constituencies.

Delegates from Belaga, Murum, Jepak, Tanjung Batu, Kemena, Bekenu, Lambir, Piasau, Pujut, Senadin, Marudi, Telang Usan, Mulu, Bukit Kota, Batu Danau, Lawas, and Bukit Sari will gather for this significant event.

During a full rehearsal on Friday, delegates expressed their hopes for the meeting and highlighted the importance of unity and leadership in ensuring Sarawak’s progress.

Unity and leadership at the forefront

Ariffin Mohamad

Ariffin Mohamad of PBB Piasau stressed the importance of the event as a platform to strengthen ties among members, adding “The Northern Zone is a critical area for PBB, with its diverse constituencies playing a significant role in fostering political and social stability in Sarawak.

Ariffin urged delegates to absorb the vision and guidance of the party president. “The PBB is a people’s platform. Every member has a role in ensuring the success of our plans. I hope delegates use this opportunity to strengthen the party’s relevance and respect,” he said.

He added that the Northern Zone, encompassing constituencies N.65 to N.82, is a stronghold for PBB, thanks to last year’s successful branch elections. This foundation, he noted, supports the party’s stability and influence at both state and federal levels.

Women’s voices highlight hopes for the future

Zanani Salleh, head of PBB Lambir’s women’s wing, shared her optimism, saying “Our preparation today (Jan 17) is for tomorrow’s meeting, which will be officiated by our Premier. We hope the Premier’s leadership will be sustained, ensuring the next generation of success under his guidance.”

Sarimah Buang of PBB Senadin women’s wing echoed similar sentiments, wishing the Premier continued good health and effective leadership. “We hope he will remain in his role to lead Sarawak forward,” she said.

The Northern Zone Delegates Meeting aims to reinforce unity among PBB branches while charting a path for Sarawak’s future under the leadership of the Premier and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
