BAU: Some 350 students benefited from the ‘PETRONAS Powering Knowledge: Back to School 2025 @ Bau’ programme, which provided essential school supplies such as uniforms, shoes, socks, bags, water bottles, and stationery sets.
The recipients, from SMK Lake, SMK Bau, SMK Paku, SK Bau, and SJKC Taiton, received their items during the event held at SMK Lake today.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh commended PETRONAS for its dedication to ensure that education remains accessible, particularly for underprivileged children.
He noted that the programme is part of PETRONAS’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, showcasing its role in empowering knowledge and emphasising human capital development through education.
“I believe programmes like this enable PETRONAS to continue being a catalyst for positive change in the lives of many Malaysians, especially in Sarawak.
“The ‘Powering Knowledge: Back to School’ initiative is a testament to PETRONAS’ commitment to foster a sense of unity and hope within the community by providing aid to 350 students today.
“We hope this effort will help ease the financial burden of families in need while motivating students to embrace the upcoming school year with enthusiasm,” he said during the event.
PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu said such programmes align with their commitment to nurturing human capital development sustainably.
She noted that education is one of the three main pillars emphasised by PETRONAS in implementing its social impact initiatives.
Norazibah also encouraged students to pursue higher education, humorously adding that PETRONAS offers scholarships for those planning to further their studies after completing secondary school.
“I hope we can play a significant role in nurturing more students and youth who are not only highly skilled but also competitive and resilient.
“I am confident that the young faces here today have the potential to excel in academic and technical fields, contributing to Malaysia’s progress and sustainability.
“Always remember the saying, ‘Seek knowledge even as far as China’. If not China, then at least aim for Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in Perak. PETRONAS scholarships are available — just apply,” she said.
