KUCHING: The Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak is offering a free introductory Shaolin wushu kung fu course to all primary and secondary school students, running from Jan 18 to Feb 23.
In a statement, the aim of the training is to inculcate self discipline toward a healthy mind and body.
Shaolin wushu kung fu is a martial arts originated from the famous Shaolin Temple of China since 495 AD.
The popularity of this martial arts has been widely used as the centre stage of wushu performance for the opening ceremony of any grand event in China and also can be seen in films shown in cinema.
The federation has established 12 training centres across Kuching and nearby areas to provide easy access for students.
Key centres include the Nanyang Wushu Federation at Kali Garden, which offers training sessions on Saturdays and Sundays from 5pm to 6pm, and the Nanyang Wushu Federation at Tabuan Court, with classes every Tuesday from 7.15pm to 8.15pm.
Other notable venues include Arang Road Basketball Court on Saturdays from 2pm to 3pm, and Kuching Sentral’s Stage Area, Batu 6 on Sundays from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Additional centres across Kuching and its surroundings, including Dewan Persatuan Taman Phoning & Everbright, Dewan Suarah Bau, and SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa, will offer Sunday sessions at various times.
Other locations, such as SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 and Pertubuhan CHE HOE KHOR in Siburan, will offer training on both Saturday and Sunday, while Dewan SUPP Matang, Super Sports Arena and Dewan Suarah Kuching will hold Sunday sessions to cater to different schedules.
The federation’s instructor-in-chief, Prof Datuk Sri Dr Song Swee Hee, requested intending students to choose their training centres and enroll themselves through SMS / What App: 019-8866879 or come personally during training session.
In addition to the student classes, adult training sessions are also available at the Nanyang Wushu Federation at Kali Garden on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7.15pm to 8.30pm.
