SINGAPORE: A Sarawak delegation, led by Deputy State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, participated in the launch of a production test rig for converting carbon dioxide and hydrogen into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Jurong, Singapore.
The event was hosted by the Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE²) and IHI Corporation.
The event showcased advanced SAF technology, which has the potential to play a transformative role in the global energy transition.
The delegation’s visit aimed to evaluate the feasibility of adopting this production technology in Sarawak by leveraging the state’s abundant natural resources to meet the growing global demand for sustainable fuels.
The engagement also included discussions with IHI Asia Pacific Pte Ltd to explore potential collaborations and investment opportunities.
“The potential for SAF aligns well with Sarawak’s vision of driving sustainable economic growth while contributing to global decarbonization goals,” said Abdullah.
The adoption of SAF technology would bolster Sarawak’s commitment to sustainability, enhancing its position as a leader in the green energy sector and reflecting its dedication to achieving a low-carbon future.
Accompanying the Deputy State Secretary were permanent secretary for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), Datuk Abg Ahmad Abg Morni; head of Energy Division MEESty, Dr Nurleyna Yunus; chief executive officer of Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), Chew Chang Guan; and head of Corporate Development and Economy Division MEESty, Dr Kho Lip Khoon.
