DEBAK: Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam has urged grassroots leaders in his constituency to remain vigilant and responsive to new government initiatives to ensure effective communication and implementation within their communities.
As the Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, he stressed the critical role of community leaders (KMKK) and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members in bridging the gap between the government and the people.
“You are the closest to the grassroots. When there are new initiatives, such as the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS), the public will come to you for information,” he said.
“This is where you must play your role to ensure that government policies truly benefit the people. I hope the KMKK and JKKK members in Saribas as a whole can become reliable references for the community, especially on matters related to government initiatives for the benefit of all,” he added.
Razi made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the Empowerment Workshop for KMKK and JKKK, organised by the KMKK Saribas Welfare Club.
The inaugural workshop brought together JKKK chairpersons and secretaries from across the constituency.
Razi encouraged grassroots leaders to utilise JKKK as an effective platform for development through bottom-up planning.
“Organise the best for your villages or longhouses and utilise proper platforms. JKKK is the most suitable platform to address local needs and drive development based on the people’s demands.”
He noted that many projects under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) have been successfully implemented, are ongoing, or are in the planning stages as a result of grassroots input.
Razi also called on KMKK and JKKK members to maintain strong relationships with their communities, highlighting the importance of harmony and unity in achieving meaningful development.
“I hope for lasting harmony and unity in Saribas. Development without these qualities is meaningless. I also urge the public to support the leaders entrusted with their responsibilities.”
He further stressed the need for KMKK and JKKK members to carry out their duties with integrity, responsibility and accountability.
Among those present at the event were acting deputy Resident of Betong Division, Hamdan Katang; administrative officer in charge of Debak Sub-District Office, Mohammad Khairurani Mohammad Ibrahim; administrative officer in charge of Spaoh Sub-District Office, Denny Lim; and Betong Division Temenggong Piee Alwi.
