TATAU: Parents must remain committed to providing their children with a strong education from an early age, said Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai.

The Kakus assemblyman said that education begins at home, with parents playing a critical role in nurturing and guiding their children from a young age.

He also urged parents and students to stay informed about growing employment opportunities in various industries.

“Starting from 2026, Sarawakian students will have free access to government-owned higher education institutions. This is a significant opportunity for parents to encourage their children to pursue higher education.

“Any field of study chosen should align with future employment demands to ensure job opportunities after graduation and to prevent unemployment,” he added when speaking at the SK Tatau 2025 Outstanding Students Awards Ceremony,

As part of the event, he announced a RM15,000 contribution to SK Tatau, aimed at supporting the school’s co-curricular programmes and encouraging students to actively participate in competitions at higher levels.
