MUKAH: The state government will always support every programme initiated by the Sarawak Welfare Department to conduct the “Sejambak Kasih” festive celebration in Sarawak.

According to Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, through this event, welfare monthly recipients are never burdened at the time of each festival celebration.

“At the same time, these contributions help bring joy during the festive season. Besides that, it helps alleviate the financial burden of recipients,” she said.

She made these remarks yesterday during the “Sejambak Kasih” Chinese New Year 2025 celebration for the Mukah Division at the Foochow Community Association Hall.

Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman pointed out that 8,135 welfare recipients are celebrating the Chinese New Year throughout Sarawak.

For the Mukah Division, 161 welfare recipients are in this division, and 50 attended this function.

She also highlighted that JKM Sarawak’s welfare aid, allocated monthly from January until December 2024, totalled RM258,491,300.

It included assistance such as Senior Citizens’ Assistance, Child Assistance, General Assistance, Disabled (OKU) Workers’ Allowance, Assistance for Caregivers of OKU/Chronically Ill Patients, Assistance for Non-Working OKU, Foster Child Assistance, and Youth and Young Women’s Assistance.

Various recipients received the Kenyalang Gold Card Death Compassionate Assistance, Kenyalang Gold Card, and OKU Card.

Those in attendance to grace the event include JKM Sarawak’s deputy director, Norhayati Abdullrahman, Mukah Welfare Section chief Dariel Tiong, and the Resident of Mukah, Datuk Kueh Leai Poe, and his Assistant Resident, Peleadam Akip, in charge of the Bintulu area and the head of the community for Mukah, Henry Lee Liong Ing.
