PUTRAJAYA: The e-Sepakat system, a mechanism for managing unity issues and monitoring grassroots-level unity concerns, will be expanded to the public this year to facilitate reporting, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

“The e-Sepakat system is currently managed by district unity officers…this year, we will open up access to the system for the public… so we can standardise the information, which will be managed by the Ministry of National Unity,” he said.

Speaking at the ceremony to deliver his New Year message, he said throughout last year, 231 cases were recorded through the system under the National Unity and Integration Department.

He said of the figure, 103 cases were related to religious issues, 89 involved hate speech, and 39 were racial issues.

Aaron said the ministry is working closely with the Communications Ministry, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Royal Malaysia Police and the National Security Council to tackle unity-related cases.

“The National Unity Ministry will continue to focus on implementing key programmes in hotspot areas, managing unity issues and conducting harmony-based programmes,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said the ministry had hosted 730 programmes, including 300 high-impact initiatives last year under the Semarak Kenegaraan (nationalism spirit), Semarak Perpaduan (unity spirit) and Komuniti Rahmah (compassionate community) clusters.

“This success is not the work of an individual, but the result of close collaboration and a team spirit at every level of the organisation,” he said. – BERNAMA
