SIBU: A critically ill five-year-old patient received a lifesaving airlift from Sibu Hospital to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in Kuching on Monday (Jan 13), thanks to a swift response from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
Bomba Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said the request for assistance came from Sibu Hospital, which urgently needed to transfer the young patient, who was in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), to SGH.
“The patient’s condition was critical and unsuitable for transfer by road ambulance, as the journey takes about five to six hours.
“The only viable option was an air transfer by helicopter,” he said.
The medical evacuation mission began at 10.30am, with the helicopter departing Sibu Hospital and arriving at the Sarawak Bomba Headquarters in Kuching an hour later at 11.30am.
Also onboard the flight were the patient’s father and a team of medical officers.
