SIBU: Newly-elected SUPP Bawang Assan branch chairman, Kelvin Lau, has pledged to work closely with his committee, as well as the youth and women’s wings, to foster unity among all branch members.

Speaking at the installation ceremony for the branch committee which was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian today (Jan 12), he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him to lead the branch.

He paid tribute to the outgoing chairman, Senator Robert Lau, who led the branch for 10 years.

“Under Robert’s leadership, along with the efforts of his committee, youth, and women’s wings, the branch overcame numerous challenges and established a strong foundation.

“I express my deepest gratitude to the committee, youth, and women’s wings for their support and unity, which have enabled me to take on the role of chairman of the branch,” he said.

He emphasised that the Bawang Assan branch belongs to all its members and not to him alone.

Lau also said that in April 2023, Robert had formed a community development team and entrusted him to lead it.

Together with community leaders and councillors, they toured Bawang Assan to serve the people and engage with them.

“From time to time, we were approached by individuals who identified themselves as veteran party members.

“This resonated deeply with us, as it reflected the strong connection and trust our veteran members have for our party.

“It also reminded us of the contributions made by past leaders towards the Chinese community and education, which earned the trust of our members,” he said.

Lau stressed that the SUPP Bawang Assan branch must remain committed to preparations and actions that demonstrate sincerity in serving the people.

“More importantly, we must show what we can achieve for them in the future. Only then can we work together to build a promising future for Bawang Assan,” he added.
