KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, hosted a courtesy visit from the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) delegation at Astana Negeri Sarawak here today (Jan 11).
The delegation, led by ICM president Tun Arifin Zakaria, met to discuss plans to expand the organisation’s activities to Sarawak and Sabah.
The initiative aims to strengthen the legal community in the region through various programmes.
During the meeting, Arifin said the expansion to East Malaysia was made possible through financial support from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“This support allows ICM to organise seminars and facilitate the exchange of legal ideas in East Malaysia, benefitting a wide range of legal professionals, including judges, lawyers, in-house counsel, and even retired members of the judiciary,” he said to the media after the courtesy call.
ICM’s programmes serve as a platform to connect members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, and academics, fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas within the legal fraternity.
Wan Junaidi expressed his support for the initiative, recognising its potential to enhance the legal landscape in Sarawak and Sabah.
He also acknowledged the importance of bridging regional differences to create a more unified legal community.
