KUCHING: Teams should be deployed by Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) to conduct training on assisting the public in registering for the S Pay Global e-wallet and accessing Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS) benefits.

State Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin who made the call said such training should involve officers from the Resident and District Offices, Welfare Department, community leaders and DUN Service Centres.

He made the suggestion following public complaints during recent ground engagements with his mobile service team.

These centred around issues such as forgotten ID numbers, system rejections when users attempted to upload photographs of themselves with their identification cards, and challenges faced by B40 individuals flagged as ineligible by the system.

He also highlighted senior citizens without mobile phones or the ability to use them, especially those in rural and remote areas, as being a particularly vulnerable group.

Certain disabled individuals (OKU) and bedridden individuals also faced significant barriers in accessing the S Pay Global platform, he said.

Lee brought these concerns up with the senior management team of SAINS yesterday.

He also suggested that SAINS establish weekend public service counters, staffed by SAINS personnel alongside representatives from other agencies, DUN Service Centres, and community leaders trained in the registration process.

In Miri, Lee, who is Senadin assemblyman, recommended that multiple service counters be opened simultaneously at strategic locations such as Permy Mall, Permy Jaya, Miri Civic Centre, and Emart Riam to alleviate congestion and expedite registrations.

He noted that with over 800,000 eligible recipients, such measures would be crucial in ensuring efficient service delivery.

The SAINS management team expressed gratitude for the feedback and agreed to send a team to Miri to support the proposed initiatives.

The public is meanwhile encouraged to visit the official Sarawak government website (https://sarawak.gov.my/) to verify their eligibility for SKAS.
