MIRI: A 27-year-old foreign national has been arrested in Miri on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking activities, according to Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu.
The operation, carried out by the Miri Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND), took place on Jan 6.
Officers raided a shophouse in the Permyjaya area where they discovered and confiscated 30g of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and will be brought to the Miri Court Complex for a remand application to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, the suspect could face life imprisonment or a minimum of five years in prison, in addition to a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected drug-related activities to their nearest police station.
