Doctor puts out fire in children’s ward

SARATOK: A quick-thinking doctor from Melaka turned hero early Thursday morning when he extinguished a fire in the children’s ward of Saratok Hospital before it could escalate.

Dr Muhammad Zulhusni Muhammad Damanhuri, 32, acted swiftly after spotting flames from an exhaust fan in the ward’s toilet.

Using a dry powder fire extinguisher, he managed to douse the fire and prevent potential harm to the ward’s occupants.

At the time of the incident, three nurses and two young patients accompanied by their mothers were present in the ward

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Saratok station were dispatched to the scene, about 5km away, after receiving a distress call at 7.22 am.

Upon arrival, they found that the fire had already been extinguished.

The team conducted inspections to ensure the area was safe before wrapping up the operation at 8.02 am.
