IPOH: A total of 210 primary and secondary school students from Perak made history by setting a Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) category for the Most Chinese Orchestra Performers in a Christmas Festival.

The performance took place last night in front of the Ipoh Town Hall on Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab.

The MBOR recognition plaque was presented by its representative, Megat Faris Hussein Megat Muzaffar Shah, to Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

Ipoh Chinese Association of Culture and Orchestra chairman, Kok Sing Yee, said the students trained for three days in preparation for the event.

“The performance featured 20 traditional Chinese musical instruments such as flutes, drums, gongs, and more,” she said.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Rumaizi said that the MBOR recognition will help promote Ipoh’s tourism sector and boost the local economy.

“This recognition would encourage the younger generation to engage in healthy activities and reap the benefits.

“I hope that the people of Ipoh and local organisations will organise similar events to attract more tourists to the city, while also providing an opportunity to showcase our cultural arts on the international stage,” he added.
