KUCHING: Miri-born Mirabel Ting, a rising star in the world of golf, further cemented her legacy by becoming the highest ranked Malaysian golfer in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), at a national record-breaking fourth place podium as to date.

Prior to that, she made headlines after becoming the first Malaysian to break into the WGAR top 10 ranking (at eighth place) earlier this year where she later moved up to rank six last Nov.

This remarkable achievement placed the 19-year-old Sarawakian on the international golfing map with her meteoric rise in the sport.

Ting currently holds the position as the country’s highest ranked golfer.

The Mirian’s breakthrough performance underscored her growing influence in amateur golf, as she continued to captivate both local and global audiences with her skills and dedication.”

The United States-based golfer record-breaking WAGR ranking highlights a career already studded with significant achievements.

In 2024 alone, Ting secured victories at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and struck gold at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in the women’s category, complimenting her status as a force to reckon in amateur golf.

Additionally, the sport prodigy earned a silver medal in the individual women’s golf event at the Southeast Asian Games 2022 (SEA Games), showcased her consistency and resilience in high-stakes competitions.

She also led Malaysia to a bronze medal in the team event, further contributing to her nation’s sporting success.
Her ambitions and dreams were further fuelled after she was invited to make her debut in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) against the world’s best (finished at 12th place), after receiving the sponsor’s invitation to the Maybank Championship this year.

From the early days of honing her skills on Sarawak’s golf courses, Ting’s talent was evident with her achieving much of the aspirations set throughout the years.

Encouraged by her family and fuelled by a relentless drive to improve, the golfer quickly progressed through regional tournaments and began making headlines.

Her journey had inspired countless young athletes, particularly in Malaysia, where her success had revitalised national interest in golf.
