Kuching: For Catherine Romen, 56, a recipient of the Faedah SHAPE programme, the assistance she has received has been a lifeline in managing her chronic health conditions.
“I’ve received it twice, mostly in the form of food aid. It has been a while since I first became a recipient,” she shared.
Catherine admitted that financial aid had never been part of the assistance provided.
However, SHAPE has been instrumental in covering her transportation costs to the clinic.
“They gave me around RM40 if I’m not mistaken,” she explained.
Catherine, who relies on e-hailing services when her family members are busy, said the transportation assistance had significantly eased her burden.
“It helps, especially when I need to get to the clinic,” she said.
A typical e-hailing trip from SHAPE to Petra Jaya costs her about RM5.
Catherine, who suffers from high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, only needs follow-up appointments every four or five months.
According to her, her next visit, scheduled for May, includes blood tests and consultations with the doctor.
With the support of SHAPE, Catherine has been able to access the healthcare services she needs, emphasising the importance of such programmes for individuals facing chronic diseases.
