KUCHING: Parents, teachers, and the community are encouraged to offer comprehensive support to children throughout their educational journey.
Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, stated that with a solid foundation in education, a generation that is more excellent, independent, and capable of advancing Sarawak towards greater progress can be produced.
“The Sarawak government, under the leadership of the Premier, is always committed and determined to prioritize the provision of quality education for all children of Sarawak.
“The state government’s commitment to strengthening the education agenda is substantial. Most recently, through the implementation of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PSCD) 2030 policy, it targets free education for all Sarawakian children pursuing studies at the state-owned higher education institutions, starting in 2026,” he said in his Christmas message.
Wan Junaidi believes the Sarawak government is working tirelessly to bridge the digital transformation gap, particularly in education, ensuring that it is used to advance society without leaving anyone behind, including those in remote areas.
“This is crucial as every child in Sarawak should have the opportunity to achieve a better life through the possibilities offered by digital transformation in their daily activities.
He added that pursuing knowledge is a significant challenge throughout their schooling.
“Each level of education comes with tests and examinations that are benchmarks for their achievements.
“Accordingly, I believe the state government’s decision to maintain the importance of examinations at certain levels is justified and appropriate.
“It aims to prepare the younger generation to be more capable and ready to face the challenges of adult life, which are far more demanding. We do not want to produce a society that is weak or uncompetitive in the future,” he said.
At the same time, he said parents play a vital role in instilling and shaping noble values in their children so that they excel not only academically but also possess strong character, identity, and high integrity.
“I would also like to express my appreciation and gratitude to all educators who have served with dedication and excellence, especially teachers working in the rural areas of Sarawak as well as in urban areas, particularly in facing the challenges of the post-pandemic era, which have been extremely tough and arduous,” said Wan Junaidi.
