KUCHING: Sarawak is on the right track to becoming a more competitive state, both nationally and globally, said Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
“In the past, the state’s economy grew through traditional sectors like tourism and agriculture,” he said in his Christmas message.
“However, the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 has driven growth through new investments in manufacturing, tourism, and renewable energy, among others.”
Wan Junaidi highlighted the PCDS 2030’s focus on technological innovation and high-value-added industries, aligning with the goal of making Sarawak an advanced and high-income state by 2030.
“Exploration into new economic sectors has brought positive impacts, positioning Sarawak as a reference point and attracting new partnerships,” he added.
“This diversification not only strengthens our economy but also makes it more resilient to global challenges.”
He noted that Sarawak has been recognised by the World Bank as a high-income economy with a Gross National Income (GNI) per capita exceeding USD17,000.
Wan Junaidi urged Sarawakians to remain united to ensure the state’s continued progress.
“The spirit of Christmas, with its emphasis on love and ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (Together in Unity), reminds us of the noble values that underpin Sarawak’s development,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation to civil servants for their dedication and commitment.
“The Premier’s plans and visions can only be achieved through solid cooperation and effective action from our public servants,” he added.
“The successes achieved by this state are a result of collective efforts and a strong team spirit.”
With continued efforts and the spirit of teamwork, Wan Junaidi expressed confidence that Sarawak will continue to achieve greater progress for the well-being of its people.
