MELAKA: Sarawak Head of State (TYT), Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi visited the grave of Datu Patinggi Abdul Gapur at the Tok Gambon Muslim Cemetery here.
In attendance were the Mufti of Melaka, Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil; and the descendants of Abdul Gapur.
Abdul Halim took the lead in reciting prayers for the soul of the revered Sarawakian warrior.
Afterwards, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah sprinkled water over the grave, a symbolic gesture of purification and respect, followed by strewing flower petals across the grave, adding a touch of beauty and serenity to the solemn occasion.
This visit also served as an important reminder of the services and sacrifices made by past leaders who shaped the history of Sarawak.
Datu Patinggi Abdul Gapur was a Sarawakian warrior who was appointed as a noble of Kuching before the Brookes arrived in Sarawak, and fought the Brookes alongside Syarif Mashor in the 1860s.
He was a key figure in Sarawak’s development, known for his advocacy of community interests and his efforts to strengthen the state’s progress, and his legacy of dedicated leadership continues to inspire future generations.
