MIRI: Sixteen individuals were detained during a series of immigration enforcement operations, codenamed “Ops Selera” and “Ops SAPU”, conducted by the Miri Immigration Enforcement Unit (UPI) last Thursday.
The operations, which began at 3 pm, targeted rental houses, food establishments, and shared accommodations at construction sites across three locations here: the city centre, Krokop, and Taman Tunku.
The largest number of arrests occurred during a raid on shared housing at a construction site in Taman Tunku, where 11 foreign nationals were apprehended.
In total, 25 individuals were screened during the operations, resulting in the arrest of 16 people, including nine men, six women, and one child.
Additionally, one individual was served a notice to assist with ongoing investigations.
The detainees were found to have committed various immigration offences, including the absence of valid travel documents, overstaying, and failing to possess a valid pass to remain in Malaysia.
All cases are classified as offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Authorities continue to urge the public to comply with immigration regulations and report any suspicious activities involving undocumented individuals.
