MP allocates RM149K to enhance services at health clinics

MIRI: Local Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man has allocated a total of RM149,000 under the parliamentary constituency’s ‘Projek Mesra Rakyat’ to three health clinics here to bolster the quality of healthcare services for the public.

The clinics benefitting from the funds are Jalan Merbau Health Clinic, Klinik Bandaraya Miri, and UTC Miri Health Clinic.

During a site visit on Friday, Chiew reviewed the implementation of the project, which aims to improve public health services in the Miri constituency.

The funds have been channelled towards procuring medical and non-medical equipment to support health promotion, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts.

Allocation Breakdown
The Jalan Merbau Health Clinic received the largest portion of the funds, totalling RM118,000, which was used to acquire a variety of equipment, including:

Customer Service Equipment: Two units of a customer rotation/call system worth RM49,100.

Seating Facilities: Six seating chairs worth RM900 each for the Work Therapy Room.

Laboratory Equipment: An incubator worth RM9,500.

Physiotherapy Equipment: Items such as an aerobic stepper, grip dynamometer, treadmill, and ultrasound therapy machine, collectively valued at RM40,700, to support patient mobility and body function rehabilitation.

Occupational Therapy Equipment: Cognitive stimulation sets, hand evaluation kits, and sensory desensitisation kits worth RM8,300 to aid muscle coordination and rehabilitation.

General Medical Equipment: Digital blood pressure monitors and thermometers worth RM9,500.

The UTC Miri Health Clinic received RM26,000, used to procure medical devices such as digital blood pressure monitors, fetal dopplers, and thermometers.

Meanwhile, the Klinik Bandaraya Miri received RM5,000 for 10 units of digital thermometers.

Chiew expressed his gratitude to the Miri Division Health Office for its swift and efficient use of the allocated funds to complete the projects at the three clinics.

Accompanying him during the visit were Dr P. Raviwharmman Packierisamy, Miri Division health officer; Sharifah Zahidah Izzati Wan Kamal from the Sarawak State Development Office (Miri Zone); and other healthcare representatives.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to enhancing public healthcare services for the Miri community. I hope these upgraded facilities will be fully utilised by the public,” he stated.

The initiative forms part of Chiew’s broader efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and service quality in Miri, ensuring that residents benefit from modern and efficient medical care.
