KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has taken a significant step towards realising its smart city ambitions with the launch of its inaugural “Smart Pole” project along the Kuching Waterfront.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the project, completed on November 18, was part of a broader initiative to enhance city services through smart technology.
“This project involves the installation of five ‘Smart Pole’ units, equipped with energy-efficient LED lights, digital signage, security cameras, public Wi-Fi, and a weather-resistant design featuring Sarawakian cultural motifs,” he told a press conference at the GoDown Amphitheatre yesterday (Dec 21).
“Each ‘Smart Pole’ integrates cutting-edge technology to improve safety, comfort, and convenience, while showcasing the state’s unique cultural heritage,” he added.
The project, which commenced on August 19, received a special allocation of RM200,000 from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Development (KPKT).
Also present were DBKU Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman; DBKU Council Member Datuk Mary Sa’diah Zainuddin; Sih Hua Tong; and DBKU Director Salwa Pauzi.
